Who We Help

Residents of Martinsville and Henry County who find themselves in need of a supplimental food source, such as low income families, senior citizens, the disabled, someone facing a layoff crisis, seasonal work situation, and otherwise disadvantaged neighbors.

How We Help

We provide a varying selection of groceries, including meat, dairy and deli products, produce, shelf-stable items, pantry staples, personal hygiene products, and beverages free of charge.

Our agency provides mainly short term help.  Our goal is to provide you with groceries while you seek more longterm forms of support for your family (i.e., other agencies, government programs, employment, budgeting, downsizing, etc).

It is our ultimate goal for those who seek our services to become self-sufficient, although that is sometimes not applicable.

How to Get Help

* Bring a valid, US Government issued photo ID

* Bring a recent electricity bill -or- an acceptable lease agreement

* Fill out our application to determine if you qualify

Our approval process is based on the totality of the information provided on the paperwork provided for you to complete, and determinations are made on a case-by-case basis.

Your Personal Responsibility

Our program is setup to foster soft personal responsibility. You may be asked to complete certain tasks meant to better your quality of life, and bring proof of those actions, to continue receiving our services.

FAMIS is Virginia's health insurance program for children.

It makes health care affordable for children of eligible families. FAMIS covers all the medical care growing children need to avoid getting sick, plus the medical care that will help them if they do get sick or get hurt.

There are no enrollment costs or monthly premiums for FAMIS. For some services, the family will have to pay a co-payment. Most co-payments are just $2.00 or $5.00. Some services, like regular check-ups, are free.

Need a Ride?

PART Bus Serves the Storehouse

The Piedmont Area Regional Transit (PART) system serves Henry County and the City of Martinsville.

Three buses are in operation Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the fee is $0.50 per trip (no charge for children under age 6).

All buses are handicapped/ADA compliant and operators are certified in wheelchair assistance, defensive driving, and CPR. Qualified riders may request that the bus deviate from the normal route (up to 0.75 miles) for pick-up or drop-off.

All three buses converge in the Wal-mart parking lot at the bottom of each hour, allowing riders to change buses.
