The program works by discreetly distributing backpacks filled with nonperishable food items to eligible students at the end of the school week. These backpacks are filled with items that are easy to prepare and do not require extensive cooking or refrigeration. By providing these backpacks, the program helps ensure that children have access to nourishing meals and snacks during times when they are not in school.
The Food for Kids program does far more than satisfy an empty stomach. It improves a child’s social, emotional and physical well-being. In addition, it creates happier families by relieving parents of the fear and anxiety associated with not being able to provide for their children. We make measurable differences in the lives of at risk children by providing individually packaged, easily prepared meals to utilize during weekends away from other resources - such as free breakfast and lunch programs at school - to children identified by their teacher or school counselor.
